Freisa is found in all the wine-producing areas of the province of Torino, and in the Pinerolo and Chieri areas in particular, where it brings out the best of its potential. It has a medium-high level of vigour, and output can be penalised by leakage problems, particularly if the weather is very wet during the flowering period. It grows successfully on counterespaliers with drastic pruning. It is a rustic vine that is little prone to cryptogrammic disease generally, although it does suffer from oidium. It ripens in midseason and the ripe grapes are blue-black in colour. The grape gives the wine a pleasant fruity perfume which is enhanced when the wine has some sparkle; because of its strong colour and tannin, the grape is also mixed with other varieties and used to produce still wine, which may age for a short period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
